A supportive system for individual balance

Core principles

Ayurveda is a traditional system that supports health by working with each person as an individual

It considers lifestyle, diet, rest, environment, and daily rhythms, and uses a range of supportive practices such as dietary guidance, herbs, breath awareness, movement, meditation, and rest to help restore balance when needed. In this way, it offers a practical framework for choosing appropriate practices based on the individual and their current state.

This is different in emphasis from yoga. Yoga, at its heart, points towards awareness, presence, and unity through direct experience. It is less about adjustment and more about observation and understanding of the mind and inner experience.

In my work, I use yoga as the foundation for awareness and presence, and draw on Ayurveda as a supportive system for understanding individual needs and choosing appropriate practices when something feels out of balance.

They are complementary, applied differently.

Essential Oils

Essential oils can offer a simple, natural way to support calm, clarity, and emotional balance in daily life.

Used gently, their aromatic qualities may help create a more settled environment for rest, focus, or relaxation. The experience is subtle and works best as a supportive background to moments of pause, breath awareness, or quiet reflection.

In traditional wellbeing approaches, including Ayurveda, aromatic oils have long been used to support balance and wellbeing as part of a wider, holistic way of living.

A simple way of using them

Essential oils can be used in a very straightforward way—through inhalation, diffusion, or quiet personal use—to help shift the atmosphere of a space and support how you feel in the moment. Some may feel more grounding, some more uplifting, and others simply help create a sense of ease and space. The effect is often subtle, but can be meaningful when used consistently as part of a calm daily rhythm, and a way to support moments of slowing down, softening, and returning to yourself.
